I am an unabashed Hans Rey fan. Go ahead. Try to abash me. You can’t do it.
In the ’90s I collected his VHS tapes, featuring all manner of insane bike skills and also some how-tos that I never quite managed to add to my own bag of tricks. Hans was Danny MacAskill before Danny’s parents even cast come-hither glances at one another. He brought not only jaw-dropping skills but also unstoppable charisma to a little corner of cycling that had hitherto been invisible but for those inside its arcane and very squeaky boundaries.
Hans is also a survivor. He has remained relevant and entertaining through the decades beyond his interest in competitive trials riding. He’s a real ambassador for cycling, and so I am happy to share this video with you today.
