Arizona isn’t known as a hotbed of frame building, but builder Dave Bohm of Bohemian Bicycles calls Tucson home. Bohm is part of a cadre of builders who rose to prominence in the 1990s, a second generation of builders following in the footsteps of masters like Albert Eisentraut and Richard Sachs.
Almost from the outset, Dave Bohm distinguished himself as a builder equally gifted at both lugged and fillet-brazed construction. He’s known for cutting intricate designs—such as penguins—into lugs, but has the requisite skills to lay down understated brass fillets.

Almost 20 years ago, Dave began offering frame building classes. Most of these clients wanted nothing more than the experience of building a single frame, some parlayed the experience into the beginning of a profession. Early on, all his students built in steel, but he added carbon fiber construction for those who wanted to work in more modern materials.
In our interview we discuss his background as well as go into the nitty and the gritty of his frame building classes.
