Robot, you mentioned that your HR spikes while mountain biking. I have the opposite problem, I can’t get my HR to go up while mountain biking. Maybe it’s a function of the flat land where I live (Minnesota – Twin Cities) but I think it’s mostly due to lack of skill which causes me to go slow combined with fitness from road/gravel riding where I can push myself as hard as I want. I find these low HR rides on the mountain bike to be oddly unsatisfying. I’d be interested to know if other people who are newish to mountain biking have a similar experience where lack of skill + fitness from other sources keeps HR down? And how do I overcome this situation? Do I just need to push myself to ride faster? How do I build the skills needed to be able to ride faster? I’m feeling a bit stuck.
