In the annals of great product names, the Redshift Sports Mousetrap deserves—at minimum—an honorable mention. I’ve lost count of the number of different products that were meant to turn clipless pedals into platform pedals. There have been previous attempts to offer something for SPDs, as well as Look pedals and Speedplay. To one degree or another they all sucked. The Speedplay ones were the easiest to use, but they were bulky and didn’t really offer a big enough platform.
Enter the better mousetrap, i.e., Redshift’s Mousetrap. What sets these apart from the other attempts at making an SPD a platform pedal is that they don’t force the user to twist the platform out of the pedal to release. It uses an internal clamp long enough that locking and releasing can be accomplished without gritting your teeth or tearing your hands up.
Installation is not only simple to perform, it’s hard to do incorrectly given the molded in “FRONT”that lets you know which way to orient the platform. The textured surface, which is rather like knurling I’ve seen in metal products, does a great job of holding onto Vans.
I’ll not comment on the fact that the purple/black color scheme I’ve been riding complements my bike other than to say the purple works well with my bike. It also comes in a teal/pink combo as well as black/gray and blue/orange.
When removed they don’t occupy much space, as in so little space they will fit in a jersey pocket or a jeans hip pocket, and in a genius stroke common to Redshift products, they included magnets that hold the platforms together, making it easy to toss them in a gear bag and not have to go fishing for each one individually.
Flipping them over isn’t difficult, but you can purchase two pair so that they are balanced and you don’t have to look down to the flip them over.

Final thought: I’d love to see what Redshift could do with Speedplay and SPD-R.
