The thing about me is that I like pretty much all the kinds of bikes, ridden in pretty much all the kinda ways. Some people will look back on the fixie era as some sort of hipster uprising they were glad to see the back of. Me? I loved it. And I still love it.
Maybe the best rider of that time was Tom LaMarche who not only did bigger, crazier stuff than most of his peers, but also had a hand in the evolution of fixed-gear bikes, starting with the narrow-barred whips of the early ’00s, into the wide bar, fat-tired versions that riders preferred later (and still). Anyway, I was feeling a little nostalgic about all this nonsense and thought I’d share some with you.
