This week, my guest is Steve Hampsten, the man behind Hampsten Cycles. While Hampsten Cycles may draw its fame from Steve’s brother Andy, the only American winner of the Giro d’Italia and Tour de Suisse, Steve has been in the bike industry for more than 30 years. He has worked in and around framebuilding for at least 20 years.
While Andy’s role in the company has been to help conceive of models and dial in geometry, Steve is the workhouse behind the brand. In addition to personally dealing with all clients, he oversees production, sources the contractors who build their bikes and even packs the bikes when they are ready to head to their forever homes. Because he has forged alliances with everyone from Co-Motion to Moots to Parlee, his reach in the industry is deep, and his reputation is sterling.
The Pull is brought to you by the North American Handmade Bicycle Show, the world’s premier annual gathering of bicycle framebuilders and framebuilding enthusiasts. The 2019 show will take place March 15-17th at the Sacramento Convention Center in Sacramento, California.
