Failing to Succeed. This week we’re talking about things that we’re not very good at, like podcasting, but still really enjoy. Basically, we’re taking failure back from all the people who are doing it wrong, and if anything, 99 episodes of this podcast are a testament to the possible successes of continuing to fail.
Music pick of the week –

With all due respect…that one is in their late forties/early fifties and STILL doing the things that juice them the same way they were juiced as a kid is a blessing.
AND that the injuries were sustained in the practice/pursuit of said passion, and not as a product of aging and/or general decrepitude?! Dude…WTF?
Sure, we all want to be ‘better’…but it’s all relative, and the world can only handle so many truly greats, so who cares…if you still love it then it doesn’t matter.
Years of knee dislocations led me to have an MPFL/Trochleoplasty/Distal Osteotomy a month ago at age 56…years of being able to compensate and surf/skate were finished. In recent years my goal was just to avoid falling while walking on uneven ground…does that mean I didn’t skate circles in my basement or do a quick (slow) street run? Or that I didn’t paddle out recently following a 4 year absence, knowing full well that there would be no ‘surfing’, just paddling, duck diving and simply being in a warm ocean? So ya, now swollen and in pain, I look forward to doing ALL of it again.
Be happy that we are still breathing, and that we still get the same stoke that we did as a teenagers.
Few can say that.
I’m learning how to adjust my optics. I’ve spent so many years being me (seeing the world as I do) that it’s proving to be a bit of a challenge to change it, but every day I get a little bit closer.
I was listening to Revolting #99 (I tend to fall behind) while riding my bike home after cheering on the riders at the Northampton (MA) CX. Upon hearing the true story of the birth of cyclocross I decided to stop at my local mini-mart. Did you know that they don’t even sell candy cigarettes anymore? That explains a lot.
