Paceline Podcast 305

This week John wonders if we aren’t doing a disservice to mountain biking by portraying the sport as being largely about expensive, full-suspension bikes. Why isn’t the sport portrayed as being about hardtails more? Patrick takes a look at what our bodies know and why we need to trust our senses more.

    I know Patrick is a big evangelist of the custom road bike.

    I’ve just recently finished grad school and am getting a real job, am considering getting a custom frame, but I don’t even know where to begin–there are so many builders out there doing really cool looking work, and I would love some guidance on how to establish a relationship with a builder and figure out who might build the right bike for me specifically.

      @David – This is whole post/podcast unto itself, so I’ll commit to making that happen in the near future. Thanks.

    Referring to the perception of the sport being expensive, that is truly the fault of most bike media- yours included, for only reviewing and talking about the top of the line components. When was the last time a GRX400 or Sram Apex groupset was reviewed by a national publication. 99% of the time Ultegra or Red or GRX800 is reviewed with the mere mention of that lower tier much like it’s not even worth mentioning or looking at, when in reality it will work perfectly fine for most.

      @sbel – Fair.

    This topic made me think of this photo (which I hope you can see): https://twitter.com/FritesEnMayoBE/status/1585635302726455296?s=20&t=x_oWqBgzOGDAjQiFSvT9LQ

      That is a top class photo. And a braver rider than I am.
