A Useful Review – The Giro Rivet CS Glove

If you know me, then you know I have a glove problem. And in summertime I struggle, because I like to wear gloves on the mountain bike. It feels safer, but it’s also hot and sweaty, so I had been on the lookout for some really lightweight gloves.

The Rivet CS is the lightest full-finger glove Giro makes.

They use an Italian-made Gradient™ Stretch Woven backhand fabric and a “Cool Skin” palm that has a leathery feel, but isn’t leather. The backhand is a polyester/elastane mix, pretty straightforward. The palm is polyethylene and polyurethane. If you’d told me those two materials would produce the look and feel they do, I’d have doubted it, but here we are.

Both side of these gloves are perforated, for added breathability. There is no closure at the wrist. They just pull on. They’re mildly compressive for a snug but not tight fit. Because they’re so thin, they give excellent bar feel, too. That leather-like palm is grippy.

I don’t really have a knock on them at all, but you know how it goes with all sports equipment. Lighter is less durable. I could imagine these gloves won’t last as long as some of the slightly heavier gloves in my collection, the POC Savant or even the Giro Trixter, but the lightness and breathability are worth it for me right now.

I like them a lot, AND right now they’re on sale on the Giro site, from $35.95 retail to $21.98, which is a tremendous value. There are four colors, but I think a couple of them are out of stock right now. I went with the Black/Olive, which is still available in S, M, L, and XL.
