I’m not sure it’s a side project if there are no front projects, but in my spare, spare time I’ve been working with my friend Bob on a print magazine, or actually a “zine.” Quite when a magazine loses its first two syllables in favor of the shorter form, I’m unclear, but this is one of the two.
HOKEM IS A (SMALL) QUARTERLY PUBLICATION THAT EXPLORES THE IDEA THAT PEOPLE WHO ARE INTERESTED IN BIKES ARE INTERESTED IN (A LOT) MORE THAN BIKES. DESIGN, MUSIC, ART, GARDENING, CARS, AND WHATEVER ELSE WE ARE INTO ARE ALL FAIR GAME.
It’s got stuff in it from Bob, Stevil Kinevil, Chris McNally (aka The Scorps), Rie Sawada, and even me. You can check it out here. I, for one, love working on print stuff, because I’m old school, or just old, and Bob and Casey Potter and David Smith have made a nice-looking thing, because they’re visual people of discerning taste. Quite against my financial interests I keep saying yes to fun projects with smart and talented people. When will I ever learn?
Anyway, if you like words and images on paper, you might like Hokem.
