It’s been a long week. Already.
If you tried to reach us last Saturday, Sunday or Monday, you likely received a stark security warning from Google that the site harbored malicious malware. In fact, it did, and we spent all of Monday working with a contractor to clean and secure our little home here on the internet. We corresponded with a few of you about it, and we’ll reiterate here our thanks for your information and input. We have lost track of the number of cyber-attacks we’ve endured in the last three years. It’s like your little corner store being held up at gunpoint over and over, despite the register containing little but loose change.
For us, who only want to ride our bikes and write about it, this constant battle is frustrating and discouraging, not to mention expensive.
No new content appeared here Wednesday, because through the process of cleaning the site, our home IP addresses were blocked from accessing the site at all. You could see the site, but we couldn’t see it or update it. It took us another 24 hours to track down the cause of that problem, via a series of thoroughly unsatisfying and mostly unhelpful live chats quite possibly with AI bots, the sort of bots, when put to a different use, likely got us into this mess in the first place.
If you wonder why we are constantly beseeching people to subscribe to TCI, it’s because, in addition to wanting to feed and shelter ourselves, there are malignant actors on the internet who think nothing of costing us a full month’s subscription revenue to promote an on-line casino.
Hopefully, we are back to regular business now.
