I know. I know. I’m like a broken record. The best bike for you isn’t the lightest one, it’s the one that fits best. The best bike upgrade you can gift yourself is a bike fit. You’ll go faster, feel better, and have more fun on a bike that fits.
To help start you on your journey of velo-specific, self-actualization, here are a couple of videos that’ll get you most of the way to a reasonable fit, first with saddle height set up, then with bar height.
This first video features my friend Jules at Cyclefit in London. What I can tell you is that what Jules lacks in telegenic charisma (He is, in his heart, a quiet man.) he more than makes up for in experience. He was Fabian Cancellara’s go to fitter, at the peak of his career. Consider that. I’ve never spoken with a fitter who is so quick and precise in his analysis, nor so simple and direct with his guidance. He and his partner at Cyclefit, Phil, are some of the most thoughtful bike people I know. So…watch this.
By contrast, I’ve never met nor heard of this guy in my life, but I like his approach here. It’s easy to understand and he doesn’t belabor any of the points, as many of the bike fitters I know are wont to do.
