The Loneliness of the Long-Distance Writer. Humans are social animals. We only make sense to ourselves in a larger context, and we spend the years of our lives trying to surround ourselves with good or interesting people, sometimes both. But the world is large and diffuse. The best people are scattered to the wind, like a thousand Monster Energy cans flung from pickup truck windows. So, we reach out, by email, by snail mail, using apps or using airplanes. Is it worth it? What would a truly solitary existence even mean?

Just so i’m crystal on this…someone offered to SOURCE AND BUY you a BMX bike you’ve coveted for for 40 years, and yet the minor hurdle of picking it up (expedition on the high seas notwithstanding) was just too much to bear?
Are you sure you really coveted it?
And yet someone still slid in make it happen for you?
Ummm, ya, ok.
