A cool company that came to my attention this winter, called Ocean and San. For cyclists on the West Side of LA, that phrase is an abbreviation for the intersection of Ocean and San Vicente in Santa Monica. For riders on the coast, it’s an easy meet-up spot.
Ocean and San makes lifestyle clothing that is mostly if not entirely cycling inspired. I’ve been wearing the All Day Shirt. It’s got a low-key sewn-on logo on the front and then a very cool design on back, plus two rear pockets plus a zippered security pocket in the middle.
I love stuff that borrows style from cycling without making me look like I just climbed off my bike. And this shirt scores high on that scale. The shirt is cut from a cotton/polyester blend, so it breathes well if you do wear it on a spin to the tap room. I’d compare it favorably with bamboo—it’s that soft. It has three pockets in the rear, like a jersey, but the middle one features a sealed zipper.
Despite the color shift between this different photos, this is a deep navy shirt with a white design. It comes in five sizes; I wear the medium and I’m about 165 lbs. currently.
I’m also wearing their Pathfinder socks; these are a thin sock that’s well-suited to cycling shoes. The All Day Shirt goes for $73 and the socks go for $22. I did not purchase these; they were brought to my attention by friends in high places. It’s quality stuff and I wouldn’t hesitate to give them some Jacksons.
